Workshop participants learn strategies to engage in politics respectfully and redirect peer conversations that demonize opponents.
About Braver Angels
Founded in 2016, Braver Angels is a citizens' organization that brings red and blue Americans together to understand each other beyond stereotypes, form community alliances, and reduce affective polarization.
About the Workshop
"The Depolarizing Within" workshop teaches participants to examine their own attitudes towards political "others" and develop strategies for engaging in politics without demonizing opponents. Participants will also learn how to constructively intervene in conversations with like-minded peers when those discussions stereotype or demonize the other side.
Goals
The Depolarizing Within workshop is open to everyone. It is ideal for workplaces, communities of worship, social clubs, and educational institutions that want to reduce or avoid the divisiveness of political polarization.
Please note that this workshop lasts three hours, including a short break. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Library was designed by the firm of Bull, Stockwell, and Allen. The architectural style is that of the 19th century railroad yard in Tiburon.
The site is part of the landfill of the 1890s done to create the railroad yard. Windows frame views of the marsh lands and Old St. Hilary's Open Space preserve.
The expanded library was designed by Brown Reynolds Watford Architecture and added approximately 9,000 square feet, bringing the total size of the library to about 19,500 square feet.
