Are you a writer with a fiction or non-fiction title you’re eager to publish? How do you make that happen, and what are the differences between traditional and independent publishing? Sign up now.

What's the difference between traditional and independent publishing, and which one is right for you?

Traditional Publishing: That route typically involves finding a literary agent who loves your book and wants to represent you. Then (hopefully) your agent will find the perfect home for your book with a traditional publisher. When that happens the publisher funds the entire production and most decisions about publication schedule, final edit, layout, cover art and marketing are decided by the publisher. You get a small advance against royalties. They get 90% of revenue and author and agent divvie up the remaining 10%.

Indie Publishing: A popular alternative in which the author funds the production of their book, makes all the decisions and keeps a much larger percentage of the revenue!

We’ll answer your questions about editors, interior layout, cover designers, audiobook narrators and production, KU, marketing, early reviewers, the role of social media in promotion and connecting with influencers, podcasts and how to make inroads into the online book community, plus the use of giveaways to generate reviews and build an audience.

Annie and David Fox are authors (who have been published traditionally and independently) In this workshop they will share with you their publishing journeys via their media company Electric Eggplant, which they founded here in Marin in 1992. While Annie and David have published computer games, apps and books, this workshop with focus on books.
