Join local author Brian Barth and members of the Wood Street Commons for a community-building conversation about homelessness and a discussion based on his book, Front Street: Resistance and Rebirth in the Tent Cities of Techlandia.
The event will be moderated by Mary Carl, the CEO of Miracle Messages, a San Francisco group that helps reconnect unhoused residents with their loved ones, and will include members of Wood Street Commons, a collective of unhoused activists featured in the book. Event will include a sneak peek of Barth's film, The Spark.
Wood Street Commons is a collective of unhoused activists from Oakland who have become known across the state for their "homeless helping the homeless' approach. They are featured in Barth's book and film.
Mary Carl has spent over two decades in the nonprofit sector working on issues of equity, homelessness and health. Prior to becoming Executive Director of Miracle Messages, she was the Executive Director of California at Health Leads working closely with community partners, local public health departments and health care systems. Prior to Health Leads, Mary was the Director of Program from Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency, a leading homeless service provider in Alameda County, CA.
