Join Corte Madera–based author Lili Weigert for a look at Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), the small, self-contained homes reshaping modern housing and design.

Drawing from her new book, Making Space: ADUs for Modern Living, Weigert shares inspiring examples of ADUs from around the world and how they support flexible living, aging in place, and creative use of space.

Followed by a conversation with local builder Pete Kasten and ADU architect Carrie Shores Diller on the future of ADUs and what’s possible in our community.

Lili Weigert traveled around the world before beginning her editorial career at National Geographic. She then spent twelve years as a brand strategist. She writes about a variety of subjects and her favorite beat, which she calls Alternative Shelter, is uncovering unexpected and surprising approaches to architecture and design. Her work has appeared in Cottage Living, Preservation Magazine, ReadyMade,Marin Magazine, California Closets’ Ideas of Order, the San Francisco Chronicle, and US News & World Report.

Carrie Shores Diller is the founder and principal architect of Inspired ADUs, a Bay Area architecture and interior design studio specializing in high-quality accessory dwelling units. With over 200 ADUs permitted in the Bay Area, her firm has become a recognized leader in the ADU space. Carrie contributed to the Making Space: ADUs for Modern Living chapter on Aging in Place design, focused on creating beautiful, high-end spaces that support independence, accessibility, and comfort at every stage of life. Her work proves that functional design can be seamlessly combined with elevated style.

Pete Kasten has been part of Kasten Builders for over 25 years. Starting with a shovel in hand at the age of 15, Pete learned the trade starting from the bottom. A skilled carpenter and project foreman, Pete hurt his back in 2004 and started doing estimating for the company. Pete now leads Kasten Builders as President - working with his team to improve the quality of life of clientelle. Pete lives in San Rafael with his wife Ana, his son Ryder, and their dog Buddy.
