Meet artist Josie Iselin as she discusses The Curious World of Seaweed, her current exhibit at the library, and her books about these remarkable marine organisms.

Through stunning color "portraits" of specimens, scientifically accurate text panels, and stories highlighting Indigenous peoples' and women's connections to seaweed, The Curious World of Seaweed, on view this summer at the library, invites visitors to see marine flora in an entirely new way.

Josie Iselin will share stories from her research and creative process, exploring how seaweed has shaped cultures and coastlines for thousands of years. From the traditions of Indigenous peoples of California and the Pacific Northwest to the work of early women naturalists and today's efforts to protect disappearing kelp forests, she will trace the many ways these remarkable marine organisms connect art, science, history, and conservation.

Schedule:

  • 5:30 pm - Wine & Cheese Reception
  • 6:00 pm - Artist/Author Talk, followed by a book signing

Copies of The Curious World of Seaweed and The Mysterious World of the Bull Kelp Forest will be available for purchase.

Josie Iselin is a photographer, author, and designer of books focusing on the ocean world of seaweeds and kelp.
